Resources in a Time of Crisis

We are blessed to have many spiritual resources on hand which have stood the test of time in helping the faithful to navigate times of crisis.  Besides the devotions already referenced: Spiritual Communion; recourse to the saints: especially St. Joseph and St. Michael; Stations of the Cross; the Rosary; the use of exorcised and blessed salt, water, and olive oil; there are the following resources.

1. Seven Penitential Psalms:  These psalms and accompanying prayers are a staple of Lent.  They are also an important resource in times of pestilence or plague.  Copies are available in the devotional resource areas of our three parish churches.  Visit one of our churches and pick up a copy.

2. Powerful Novena to St. Joseph:  This past Thursday we celebrated the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Husband of Mary.  This is such an important feast that we even sing the Gloria in the midst of Lent.  St. Joseph is a powerful intercessor as Guardian of the Redeemer and Patron of the Universal Church.  Here is the Link: Novena to St. Joseph

3. The Surrender Novena:  This is a beautiful novena when we find ourselves having difficulty with letting go.  In times of stress we have particular difficulty letting go; others have difficulty avoiding hopelessness.  Along with this novena it might be worthwhile to consider this reflection by Msgr. Charles Pope: Five Hard Truths.  This most definitely does not conform to the spirit of the age; it is, however, a reflection on eternal Truth.

4. 10 Things You Should Do Until Public Masses Return  This is an excellent list of practical ideas and resources.

5. Mass can be viewed on EWTN daily (7:00am, 11:00am, 6:00pm & 11:00pm); Sunday Mass from the Diocese of La Crosse can be viewed at 9:30am on WXOW, Channel 19 - La Crosse; It can also be viewed anytime at https://diolc.org/live.
