Dearest Brothers and Sisters,
This afternoon Governor Evers has directed that under penalty of imprisonment and/or fine there are to be no gatherings of more the 50 people as of 1:30 pm this afternoon.
It pains me to announce that by decree of Bishop Callahan all public Masses are cancelled beginning Friday, March 20. He has further directed that our churches remain open so as to allow the faithful to visit our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist and to pray for deliverance from this pestilence. Finally, he has reminded priests of their duty to offer daily Mass for the salvation of souls.
Therefore, in obedience to our bishop, regularly scheduled public Masses are cancelled; though our churches will remain open for prayer. I will be offering Mass privately within one of our parish churches each day.
Also, since the scheduled deanery Communal Confession Services are now cancelled I will develop a schedule of extended opportunities for Confession, again, at the direction of our bishop. This schedule will be posted by the end of this week.
Please be sure to pray unceasingly for deliverance from this sickness as well as from the even more deadly spiritual ills that beset our culture and the whole world.
I will be making resources available both in our churches and on this site to assist in your prayer and contemplation as we continue through this Lenten season. Remember in particular the spiritual Communion that we discussed at this weekend's Masses. Cultivate that hunger for the Eucharist which will prepare you for worthy reception of that most blessed Sacrament when we are able to meet again.
